1. The world of work is increasingly global and increasingly collaborative.

As more and more companies move to the global marketplace, it is common for work teams to span continents and time zones. Not only are teams geographically diverse, they are also culturally diverse. Our efforts are swiftly moving away from a competitive mode, where countries claim superiority over the other, but rather seeking what is best based on collaborative intellectual energies.

How/where might this be applied?
Management: Increasing complexity of the workplace. the need for greater flexibility to respons to contextual, cultural and time differences. OR the need for specialsed teams OR speialists within teams to respond to the management requirement to organise and allocate resources.
One thing to remember is the size of the old, traditional world of work. it too can not be ignored, so TAFE SA may have to create two models to cater to the old, the new and and ???
Professional Development: Awareness creation to allow managers and staff to respond. managers must be part of this and time has to be allocated to allow PD to evolve into actions.
Teaching and Learning: Teaching and learning practice will have to adapt to customer wants and competitive pressure in our new environment. Or we could remain a specialist niche catering to the perhaps large segment that remains local and homogenous. I think I prefer the former. large sectors of our client base, especially the defence and manufacturing sectors are operating in the global marketplace. Their employees too must adapt to this changing world of work.
Examples of this already in place?
Management: Overseas training collaboration in China, Vietnam, Kiribati and elsewhere. Requires resources (rooms and facilities) and people to be organised. people need cultural as well as specific VET skills. Timing is important, and communication between collaborators is all important. All of thes carry associated risks that should be managed in a formal process. Collaboration can take place between two, three or more arganisations with different cultures and different power relationships.
Professional Development: See above. Much trainig required for all parties, individually, group and across organisations.
Teaching and Learning: Example of teaching and learning in this environment have been high risk, with some poor outcomes, and at best have achieved the required goals but have not been sustainable.
Which ICTs are involved?
Potentially different Learning Management Systems (LMSs), different development and versions of the same LMS (such as Moodle), mobile device technology whereby the country has skipped fixed lines. use of the Offoce suite, but also an understanding of wikis and blogs such as WorPress which can be adpated to many uses and provide a web based, cloud based resource (ready made). Apart from that, everything, Email, forums, chat, facebook, etc etc etc !!!! Including old fachioned hard copy.

Example. Adelaide software company, Pakistani software coding, customer in New Guinea - use of mobile phone technology, quick response bar codes (QR) as part of the software product customer need. Requires long opening hours in Adelaide to match Pakistani and NewGuinea communication availability. Use of Skype for face to face communication. Much travel, but organised for max effectiveness and efficiency, when Phone, SKype, email do not provide enough clarity.
